* In the original “white box” rules by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, an elf character could toggle between fighter OR magic-user abilities — but the above sheet instead follows the later AD&D model of “fighter/magic-user” multiclass. The dwarf and halfling types were essentially limited-level fighters with a couple additional abilities.
FYI: The thief class was not officially introduced until 1975’s Greyhawk supplement, although Gygax had released playtests earlier.
